Each year, Katie Derham spends much of her summer at the Royal Albert Hall, hosting the BBC Proms, but when the baton falls she heads off to sail around the Ionian Islands with her family, dropping anchor at Ithaca and Kefalonia and feasting on just-caught fish and goat¡¯s cheese. Both these ingredients will be on the menu at Meraki, one of London¡¯s brightest Greek restaurants, along with smoked aubergine, lamb chops and bougatsa custard pie, creating a vivid culinary picture of the Mediterranean.
For our latest Traveller¡¯s Tales event, in association with the Greek National Tourism Organisation, Katie will host a long, leisurely lunch and share stories about the Grecian isles and her varied career in broadcasting. She was ITV¡¯s youngest ever newsreader and has made several documentaries, including The Girl from Ipanema: Brazil, Bossa Nova and the Beach, about the famous song. But she¡¯s also known for her tango and foxtrot moves, having reached the finals of Strictly Come Dancing in 2015, culminating in a memorable quickstep number to 42nd Street. Guests at the event are not encouraged to bring their dancing shoes, but sequins are more than welcome.
