Looking for inspiration for that long-awaited hair appointment? Consider the curtain fringe. Considerably longer than a traditional fringe, it starts just below the eye and can be worn swept to the side or parted in the middle, making it an easy way to approach taking the plunge this summer. Hairstylist Adam Reed explains its appeal: ¡°The curtain fringe is without doubt one of the most versatile fringe styles; it is weighty, heavier than your average and sits with a slight sweeping parting.¡±?

A nod to the ¡¯70s, it¡¯s the perfect choice if your fringe is now outgrown but you¡¯re not sure if you want to go back to a high-maintenance style that needs regular trimming. It¡¯ll also allow you some growing space should salons shut again. ¡°Cut on a concave, this fringe was popular in the ¡¯70s with the likes of Goldie Hawn and Ali McGraw,¡± explains Reed. ¡°Its edges are shattered to allow for a soft sweep.¡±

If lockdown has prompted you to reconsider your hair, then this is the way in. It¡¯s a great alternative to more serious, commitment-requiring bangs, and will give your hair the shape you¡¯ve been looking for after months of going un-cut. Plus it¡¯s the most universally flattering fringe style there is. ¡°It¡¯s undone, which makes it perfect for every face shape, as well as being a fringe that lends itself well to a grown-out style,¡± Reed says.?

Jennifer Lopez has worn curtain bangs for years. Whether with a classic high ponytail or styled into a Bardot-worthy blowout, she provides the perfect example of versatility. ¡°To style at home,¡± Reed continues, ¡°I would suggest prepping damp hair with L¡¯Or¨¦al Professionnel Tecni.ART Pli and then drying with a large GHD Ceramic round brush. Smooth under with the GHD rise hot brush. Spray a little hairspray onto your fingers and gently part in the centre to create the ultimate curtain fringe.¡±
