Model and two-time British Vogue cover star Fran Summers has undergone a dramatic hair transformation. The 22-year-old from North Yorkshire unveiled her raven-hued pixie cut on the catwalk at Valentino¡¯s spring/summer 2022 couture show. Channelling a modern day Mia Farrow, with a micro fringe and drastically shorn ends, it was a head-turning moment.?

¡°It¡¯s a pretty big change,¡± she tells Vogue over the phone from Paris. ¡°It came out of nowhere.¡± Of course, this isn¡¯t the first time Summers has experimented with a new look. First came the fringe, followed by a long bob, after which she traded in her signature light brown hues for a shock of peroxide blonde.? ¡°I just love the idea of just creating a new character for myself,¡± she muses. ¡°When I did my bleached hair, I started dressing differently and I woke up feeling different every morning.¡±

Walking for Ala?a and Chanel earlier in the week, it looked for a moment like she was returning to her brunette roots. That is until legendary hair stylist Guido and master colourist Davide Avellino got their hands on her, the night before the Valentino show.?
The original plan was just to cut it short and let the style speak for itself, but then came the brainwave: dye it jet black. ¡°She was very gung ho about it,¡± says Guido. ¡°But once I cut her hair off into that short, boyish Audrey Hepburn style cut, I thought the colour wasn¡¯t good enough.¡±?
There was talk of dyeing it red, but black felt a punchier. ¡°I wanted it to feel edgy and young and I felt black would give the hair cut another edge.¡±
¡°I feel so much more confident,¡± says Summers. ¡°It¡¯s punk but also really beautiful, and it¡¯s unforgiving but in the best way possible. I just love experimenting with my hair.¡±?
